Get ready for Malaysia's AI law
The AI Governance Bill is expected in early 2027 and will be risk-based. A simple AI register now will save you work later.
What we know: the Digital Minister says the Bill will be cross-sector, risk-based and focused on the potential harm of each AI system, with stricter safety controls, testing and human oversight for high-risk systems. He also described a wider framework of standards, regulations and law, with a new standards centre working with SIRIM.
Start now, it takes an afternoon:
- List every AI use in your company: tool, purpose, data used, owner.
- Mark anything that affects people's rights, safety, money or health as high attention.
- For those, write down the human check and how you would explain a decision.
- Align with the seven AIGE principles: fairness; reliability, safety and control; privacy and security; inclusiveness; transparency; accountability; human benefit.
