Malaysia's AI Governance Bill is coming in early 2027

The Digital Minister says the Bill will be risk-based, with stricter testing and human oversight for high-risk AI, and is expected to be tabled early next year.
Gobind Singh Deo told the Dewan Rakyat that obligations will depend on the potential harm of an AI system rather than the industry it sits in, and that the Bill will work across sectors alongside existing laws. In September he said the draft was complete and going to Cabinet, with the aim of tabling it by the first quarter of 2027.
What to do now: keep a simple list of where your company uses AI and who owns each use. That list will be the starting point for any future compliance work.
