Recipe 6: Your own decision memo assistant

A saved project with your company context and a house template, so every proposal comes back as a clear one-page decision memo.

You need: ChatGPT or Claude (Projects). About 25 minutes.

  1. Create a new Project called "Decision memos".
  2. Add context files: a short company profile, your strategy on a page, and one example of a memo you liked. No confidential data while you learn.
  3. Add these project instructions:
You help me write one-page decision memos. Always use this structure:
Decision needed, Recommendation, Options considered (with cost, benefit,
risk), What we would need to believe, Next steps and owner.
UK spelling, ringgit, plain English. Ask up to five clarifying
questions first. Never invent numbers: mark gaps as [TBC].
  1. Test it on a real but low-stakes decision, such as choosing between two software vendors.
  2. Share the project with a colleague and compare results.

Level up: add a step where it argues for the option you did not pick.
